Equipment Uses:

Equipment Uses: is an exhibition and performance that includes object installation and performance-based works. The exhibition viewed as devoid of performance, questions the potential use-value of a sculpture when assigning (a ghost of) function to non-sensical structures. Arrangements consisted of collected materials and crafted unfired clay forms; by situating themselves in the language of poetics these sculptures challenge a sense of recognizability and functionality, suggesting possible uses and reuses by imagined bodies.

Makayla Lindsay presented a group of sculptures in the BaseSpace of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In a four-hour-long performance, each sculpture is activated displaying possible purposes. Performed by seven performers, with a mix of dancers and non-dancers, this performance explores how we interact with objects by highlighting the noticing of behavioral habits and habitual movement, inviting viewers to reconsider their relationships with everyday items and actions that shape our spatial orientation and movement.
