Makayla Lindsay is an artist living and working in Chicago, IL. Her practice is grounded in improvisational and observational gestures that explore our spatial and social relationship to the built environment. Deriving from traditional ceramics, Lindsay crafts arrangements from found and made objects. Then, turning towards language – in the form of prose and scores – she extends the potentiality and functionality of these sculptural arrangements into time-based works. Within these activations, the duration becomes the center of concern, challenging the role of the audience in conventional performance-based settings. Lindsay received her MFA with a full-merit scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was a recipient of the Municipal Art League Fellowship upon graduating.
